About

Dunn Chevrolet in Oregon OH

Dunn Chevrolet, Inc. had it's beginning back in 1909 by Charles F. Dunn. The company was first called Dunn Motor. Charles F. Dunn and his sons Clifford and Donald added the Chevrolet Franchise in 1925. In the 40's Buick was dropped, and in July of 1950 Dunn Motor Sales began selling Old mobiles. Shortly thereafter the name of the company was changed to Dunn Chevrolet-Olds, Inc.

The original building, located where the National Bank of Oak Harbor now stands in Curtice, burned to the ground in 1959. Within seven days the rubble was cleared and Dunn Chevrolet-Olds was back in business operating out of temporary wooden buildings and a garage for the parts department. The technicians repaired vehicles outside on the cement of the burned location that entire winter until a new facility could be completed one block down the street. The spring of 1961 marked the opening of a new facility on the corner of Brown and N. Curtice Road operated by owner Cliff Dunn. Business grew beyond his expectation so that in 1967 eight more service bays were added and the parts department was expanded.

In 1970 Tom and Jim took over the business and a new fifteen (15) stall body shop was built. Four years later the customer reception area and waiting room were remodeled.

January of 1986 marked the date of the most difficult decision of our business lives when we chose to leave Curtice after 78 years and move into the high growth area of our neighboring City of Oregon.

The property on the corner of I-280 and Navarre Avenue in Oregon became available in June of 1987 as we were in the process of constructing our current building, so we developed that property into a second used car location called "the I-280 Used Car Center".

Completion of construction at our current site occurred six months after it began and we celebrated the opening in September, 1987 of our brand new auto complex on Dustin Road in Oregon.

Dunn Chevy currently employs approximately 100 full time people. We are extremely proud of them for all they have done in helping us build a fine reputation in this community. The motto we all try to live by here at Dunn Chevy is "Be honest and as good as your word" and this philosophy guides each of us as we strive to do everything possible to maintain positive relationships with our customers. We want this dealership to be a quality operation for generations to come.

Be honest and as good as your word. When you make a promise, keep it.

That was the philosophy Charles F. Dunn adopted when he opened our first dealership in Curtice in 1909. It's a philosophy that has guided our company through four generations, making Dunn Chevrolet the oldest family owned dealership in the United States.
